Howcroft Industrial Supplies resolves UK Coal booster fan obstacle!

Howcroft Industrial Supplies have historical ties to the UK mining industry and UK Coal, hence why we were the perfect option to assist in a problem they had with the booster fan at Kellingley Colliery. The aim of a booster fan is to provide a constant flow of air to the underground workings of the mine; the booster fan also helps regulate the temperature of the mine. Without the booster fan the mine is not operational therefore it is one of the most vital parts of a colliery.

Many manufacturers tried solving this long term problem of the booster fan including the original fan and lubrication manufacturers. The booster fan would only work without problems for between 6 to 12 months before maintenance was needed.

Howcroft’s MD Allan Howcroft, assisted the colliery manager at the time Ian Dixon, in solving the problem. Howcroft’s are one of only 5 UK distributors of the Cooper Split Roller Bearings and they were Allan’s choice to work with regarding designing a new bearing and housing for this application. Once the project had been completed, the booster fan alterations have been proven a success. The booster fan now operates on around a 5 year cycle without maintenance.

UK Coal commended Howcroft Industrial Supplies on our unwavering commitment to the project and our swift solution.
